Why breadth matters
An index can rise while the median stock struggles. When that happens, the headline looks stronger than the underlying market. Breadth helps separate a durable advance from one dependent on a small group of leaders.
Improving small-cap and sector participation is constructive because it suggests easing financial conditions are reaching more of the market.
What would confirm it
Look for continued participation from industrials, financials, smaller technology companies and profitable growth outside the largest platforms.
If yields rise and breadth disappears, confidence should fall. If breadth holds through macro volatility, the bull case becomes more robust.
